L'assistenza è davvero buona e l'insieme è ben tenuto dai preti guanelliani che, credo, ne sono i proprietari. Nella sala d’aspetto c’è un registro ove gli assistiti e/o i loro familiari, specie in caso di dimissioni per l’evidente miglioramento, sono soliti apporre segni   di gratitudine sia per gli "ordinati" che guidano l’istituto, sia per i medici, i fisioterapisti, gl'infermieri e gli assistenti che vi lavorano.

A un giornalista che mi ha telefonato pochi minuti dopo la diffusione della notizia, nell’emozione del momento non ho potuto che dire “era il Salgari del nostro secolo”. Non è proprio così. Altrove ho scritto che c’è una strana differenza tra grandi scrittori (che secondo l’opinione comune scrivono “bene” e creatori di miti che possono scrivere anche malissimo. Dumas era a metà strada: I tre moschettieri sono scritti in uno stile secco, preciso, non una parola in più. D’accordo, non sono la Recherche , ma se fossero stati come la Recherche di Proust sarebbero insopportabili (e viceversa). Il conte di Montecristo , invece, è scritto assai male: ciò non toglie che sia epico. Formidabile narratore, forse prima che disegnatore (ma non sarebbe stato narratore se non fosse stato disegnatore) comprensibile eppure coltissimo, pieno di riferimenti letterari, mitologici, etnografici… Un artista molto complesso.

The economic recovery of East Asia and India in Latin America is una sfida insormontabile per “l’economia-mondo” creata da un occidente che non arriva più a controllare i costi dell’accumulazione.

Da decenni le tre curve mondiali dei prezzi della manodopera, delle materie prime e delle imposte sono ovunque in forte rialzo. Il breve periodo neoliberale che sta terminando ha invertito solo provvisoriamente la tendenza: alla fine degli anni ‘90, questi costi erano certo meno elevati che nel 1970, ma molto più rilevanti del 1945. Infatti, l’ultimo periodo d’accumulazione reale – i “trenta gloriosi” – è stato possibile soltanto perché gli Stati keynesiani hanno messo le loro forze al servizio del capitale. Ma anche qui il limite è ormai raggiunto!

Ci sono dei precedenti simili alla fase attuale, come quelli che hai appena descritto?

Ce ne sono molti nella storia dell’umanità, contrariamente a quanto ci viene riportato dalla rappresentazione di un progresso continuo e inevitabile, forgiata nella metà del XIX secolo e presente anche nella versione marxista. Per quanto mi riguarda, preferisco attenermi alla tesi della possibilità del progresso e non della sua ineluttabilità. Certo il capitalismo è il sistema che ha saputo produrre, in modo straordinario e stupefacente, il maggior numero di beni e di ricchezza.
